Israel Patent Authority Report

The Israeli Patent Authority report for 2014 was recently released. Inventors, developers, and entrepreneurs can extract a lot of information from the document. The information about patents enables inventors to review reliable information surveying the Patent Authority’s activity and its examiners.

The Patent Authority report numbers 106 pages in various fields of Patent Authority activity, but there are several topics that can interest the community of inventors and entrepreneurs in Israel who submit patent applications and other types of intellectual property.

What’s Interesting in the Patent Authority Report?

According to the Patent Authority report, in 2014, 5,817 first examinations were performed for patent applications, and the average time for first examination stood at 29.4 months. Therefore, inventors interested in advancing and shortening the examination process can approach the process for fast and accelerated examination if they meet the Patent Authority’s requirements.

For additional information on this matter, see: Patent Application Acceleration.

This year too, the Authority’s report is accompanied by graphs and tables compared to previous years. You can review graphs and make various comparisons.

On page 43 of the Patent Authority report, data is presented on the green applications track, namely applications accepted in this track will be examined in an accelerated process without need for additional fee payment, but rather based on application type. The report shows an upward trend in applications approved in the track as green applications.

We’re happy that our clients number part of this type of patent applications and received approval according to this track. According to Authority data, 27 green patent applications were classified in this unique track and 8 patent applications were granted.

According to Authority publications, applications that can be accepted are applications that help improve environmental quality, including by delaying factors of global warming, reducing air or water pollution, promoting non-polluting agriculture, dealing with alternative energy, and more… and their examination will begin three months from classification date. It will be possible to request to classify applications already submitted as applications in the regular track whose examination hasn’t yet begun.
